Got a 2004 Forester XT. It's got a few mods to get 190kw at the wheels, front/rear LSD's, 20kg Sti rally centre diff and Sti spec C 13:1 quick steering rack. Stupidly fun/fast on gravel. Definately a rally car.....!

Well coming from someone who owns two no it’s not, however that doesnt stop people from thinking or treating it like it is. However also people enter very cheap cars into rallies all the time. Its a great way to get into the sport for very little money

Alot of these modifications make sense for a car primarily sold for street use. I would say that the WRX STI seems like a good platform for many modifications, with the engine, trans, and the drivetrain all being perfect. safety modifications make sense as it would make the car less comfortable, and suspension setup really depends on the final use case. in the case of Dirtfish, you could tell that they focused on repairability and longevity, since it's a school that probably puts thousands of miles on these cars per year.

Ok so thinking about getting 15 inch wheels for my 2014 wrx so I can put these tires on it. Having a hard time finding any source that can confirm fitment over the stock brakes. Does anyone know if stock wrx brakes in 2014 will fit in 15 inch wheel. It looks like it would be extremely tight to me looking at the stock 17 inch. What are my options?

Thats a gravel setup a tarmac set up is closer to a stock sti gravel and snow are similar with diferente tires and compresión rathes

The hing is hough. This is very USA centric. Here in Belgium the vast majority of rallying is on very narrow asphalt roads. For which the stock STi is good. We do have ONE rally that has a lot of gravel roads and I did it once (in regularity racing). Yeah stock Subarus suffer under those conditions.

Off topic. I saw a video of a cover pulled from a Tesla inverter that was leaking coolant. That made me think about the air cooled inverter in the Nissan electrics. This would be good to investigate which is better and when air cooling is adequate.

Yeah, one must be aware of what they are buying...I like STIs, but they’re not rally comp ready of the showroom floor. You get a decent base to start with, but without extra budget, it’ll do best in the road.

I loved taking my 04 STI on dirt. But certainly never rallied it.

I think it's more of a road/track car with rally abilities. Oddly enough the WRX with the softer suspension and five speed was always the popular rally car, the downside being the differentials.
Ideally you get the STI with a long travel suspension.

stock sti suspension 1 day to 2 months? that's a huge difference. what do they do to break them in a day, launch them off jumps repeatedly?

The amount of effort that goes into controlling the car makes it hard to keep the revs up. I see why the sequential transmissions are important.

I find it amusing when people buy STI's and EVO's then immediately try to race them and break the car. Out of the box sti and evo are a drivers car. Meant to carve up canyon roads. Good work on the ralley course and thank you for pointing out stock STI is not what most people think.
